Georges wife's name looked like Asorlise, but it was almost
illegible. The last half of her name does look like it ends in lise.
I'm guessing it's supposed to read "Emaline".

???????
At the moment I just have Gerhard Gerling & 2 Gerling women - one married a
Feldkamp & one a Schulte. Both were in Washtenaw County, Michigan, & I'm
not sure yet how they're connected to Gerhard. Since Gerhard went to
Eitzen, there were more of his relatives up there. I've just found out
about the "Eitzen factor". I think some of the other Schale families up
there were Deters & Esch. There are probably more since these folks
migrated in clusters.

When I talk to my cousin again (we do everything by phone & snail mail) I'll
tell him about you & that you were asking about the Gerling-Franzen folks.
He may have some more info he can give me on the phone. I know he'll ask me
how you fit in. Are these folks your ancestors? If so, I'm very pleased to
meet another cousin

======================
Tom,
The past week went very fast for me, maybe it has for you too. Did you
happen to check your database? Rest assured, we do have a connection.....
I mentioned those 2 Gerling women who were in Michigan because I know
they're related to your Gerling, just not how at the moment tho. All these
folks are related. The people in Michigan were cousins & even siblings of
the many other folks at Barrington & Bensenville in Illinois, & also Oak
Creek (Milwaukee County), Wisconsin. There was also an early cluster of
Schale families in southern Illinois. Those were the first settlements
(late 1830's to 1855 or so), then some of the lines spread out to Eitzen,
the area south of Hutchinson, Iowa, the Dakotas, Kansas & Nebraska. Some
got up into Canada.
I also mentioned that there were several other families from Schale who
moved to Eitzen. The other day while looking for something else entirely, I
came across some info from cousin David's "Schale Newsletter" (issue for
April 1988) that has a list from an old phone book (I don't know how old) of
folks at Eitzen who were Schale descendants - Mrs. Ruby Brinker, Arthur
Deters, Edgar Deters, Edward Deters, Erwin Deters, Garnett Deters, Martin B.
Deters, Warren Deters, John Esch, Edgar Haar, Frank Haar, Roger Haar, Walter
Haar, David Kurk, Scott Kurk, Steve & Vicky Kurk, Mrs. Alice Meiners, Flora
Meiners, Jerry Meiners, LeRoy Meiners, Rodney Meiners, Harold Paus, John
Paus, Milton Paus, Stanton Paus, Monica R. Schulte, Bradley Staggemeyer,
Dean Staggemeyer, Mrs. Marie Staggemeyer, Milton Staggemeyer, Rick
Staggemeyer, Clarence Wiemerslage, Edna Wiemerslage, Henry (Boots)
Wiemerslage. David notes that there are undoubtedly many other peo ple who
were descended from Schale families in their female lines too.
The Franzen family is ancestral to several of those names & connected by
marriage to others. I'm a Deters & Haar descendant myself, directly. David
is a direct descendant of Franzen & Meiners. And lots of these Eitzen names
are connected to Grosse-Dreselhaus which is ancestral to a whole host of
other names.
I've been "fine-tuning" my Franzen entries - adding some more complete
dates, descent thru the female lines, godparents, etc. I keep trying to
find a stopping place so I can get the update sent to my WorldConnect page,
but I get drawn in to more & more tangles & sit here for hours making sure I
get the right people merged. (Franzen led me to Elfring which led to folks
I'd already entered from other connections. It's got me talking to myself
) Hopefull pretty soon I'll be able to backtrack to Grosse-Dresselhaus &
then head forward again on other lines. That will bring out a lot more
links, & probably lead me into Gerling. I don't have any new info on
Gerling yet, but it's coming eventually.
Gloria
