to Emma M. Scoles list William, both wives,
and all the children, and a note stating that
Eliakin and Ellhu Beach, the last children of
Elizabeth beach. The twins & Elizabeth died
at childbirth.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

William was born circa 1797 in New Jersey, moved to Morris Twp., Green County Pennsylvania,
(E-mail from Sherry Norton says there was a Wm. Beach in Morris Twp.) and settled in Knox County, Ohio. Sources- Eugene H. Beach,1850 Knox Co Ohio Census, Berlin Twp. & Tom McFarland.

KNOX CO. OHIO LAND RECORDS OFFICE- N/105 John and Mary Kerby to William Beach, all of Knox County; 20 acres in the Northwest quarter of Sec 15, Town 8, Range 12; 9 Dec. 1824. (Was our Wm. Sr. in Ohio by Dec. 1824?)

An 1847 Plat map of Berlin Township, Knox County, Ohio, shows William Beach with 100 acres Northeast of Fredericktown, Knox Co. Ohio.

On a letter to Peggy Chlarson from Frances C. Beach, it states: When we were in Knox County, Ohio, we found that Wm. Sr. died intestate. Three of the four boxes containing the estate settlement are missing or lost. From the one remaining we learned that the probate court appointed Wm. Jr. and widow Emily administrators of the estate. Guardianships appointed for Henry, Peter, Emma and Spencer, the Cole children but none for Sarah. Then we spent a week searching and copying deeds and from this deducted the names of the heirs. However this doesn't come out even as the Cole children (Lavinna must have been dead) Henry, and Peter shared a "ninth" of the estate, meaning there were nine heirs and usually this includes the widow. In this instance the 1/9th share does not come out right.

Her notes:

Journal Book B, page 93, Widow Emily M. BEACH and William Jr., appointed
administrators to William Sr.'s estate. Posted bond of $1000. (part of record missing)

Sept 15, 1997, Searched local record at Fredericktown, OH Library for info on Beach family,
Found nothing.

Sept 16, 1997, searched probate records at Mt Vernon, Knox Co. OH.... "no will recorded".
Found notice of $1000 bond for wife Emily Beach and son Wm. Beach Jr. for the administration
of William Beach Sr's estate. (Probate- 24, Nov. 1857, page 350)

As I stated I believe that John S. Beach died in IN. not Knox Co., OH.
While I don't have a census record of him in that area, I did find the
following: Included with the probate file in Knox Co., OH. for William
Beach, Sr. - bk. WW, pg 20 listed...paper stating that the State of IN.,
Lake Co. on 5 Apr 1858 that a H.W. Craft, wife Mary and John S. Beach
and wife Lydia appeared in person before court recorder Amos Allman of
Lake Co., IN. (re- estate of William Beach). This paper was included
with one from Knox Co., OH. where Emily M. Beach, William Beach and
Emaline Beach signed concerning William Sr. probate filings

Sept 16, 1997, searched land records at Mt. Vernon, Found....
9 Jan 1835 land deed for 50 Acres for sum of $250., Wm. Smith and wife sold to Wm. Beach.

1 June 1836, land deed, lot #3 for $640 dollars. Henry B. Curtis & wife sold to Wm. Beach.
(Deed P, page 298)

8 Jan 1838, land deed, Wm. Beach sold to Thomas Hughes for $100 dollars, land in sec. 18,
R.8. (Deed T, page 255)

On a letter from Peggy Chlarson that has Penny Tufts, 1971......
I have an old note (probably from Dad Tufts-Marvin R., Sr.) that the Beaches were from the Pennsylvania Dutch. A later note dated 1968 said Aunt Margaret said Holland Dutch. It seems to me now that she said they were Holland Dutch from Pennsylvania and that she told me what they called the Pennsylvania Dutch from Germany, and settled in Pennsylvania.
